Brandyn "SKilz" Burton
Founder/
Executive Director
Brandyn "SKilz" Burton is a performing artist from Detroit, MI. He identifies most as a versatile dancer/teacher/choreographer and utilizes movement as a form of communication. Burton has been an advocate for the Michigan Dance Community for over a decade and hopes to continue to create many more meaningful opportunities for artists all over.
The Birth of SKilset
Noticing the need for a positive change, Burton founded SKilled Productions and Epiphany Dance Company before attending Marygrove College. The knowledge he gained while working professionally & attaining his degree, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre Performance, allowed him to be the change he wanted to see within the Michigan Dance Community. With his companies, he has managed to do just that. EDC has performed throughout the country, opened for artists such as Jill Scott and Dwele and has represented the Michigan Dance Community on numerous occasions. The company has been blessed to be able to provide phenomenal opportunities to dozens of Michigan Dance Artists.
In addition to his own, Burton has trained with, danced and choreographed for many crews, collectives & companies throughout the Midwestern Region of the country and beyond. Additionally, he has had the opportunity to open for artists such as Jodeci, Brian McKnight and Jazz artist, Jonathan Butler and has worked with Industry Greats such as Debbie Allen & Kevin Iega Jeff and many more!
Henry Ford College, Point Park University, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater & Complexions Contemporary Ballet have all awarded Mr. Burton scholarship opportunities. He has also received awards and recognition for his work with competitive, pre-professional and professional companies including numerous awards at The World Dance Championships in Secaucus, NJ, The Spirit of Detroit Award and more. In 2018, SKilz became a Kresge Arts Foundation Gilda Award Recipient (A prestigious award granted to artists who demonstrate exceptional potential through creative risk-taking and pushing the boundaries of their chosen art form.)
Besides inspiring youth at a wide variety of dance studios, Burton enjoys teaching at workshops, conventions and intensives, creative direction, choreographing and performing regularly. Outside of continuing to build meaningful relationships, opportunities and more for S2MS, SKilz currently directs a dance program with The Detroit Public Schools Community District, travels to judge numerous dance competitions & advises numerous organizations with the Michigan Dance Community. He hopes to continue to affect change and be a positive force for years to come.
